Reference & Related Items

The Reference tab is where you connect a project to everything else in the portal that's relevant to it — a brand kit Resource, a piece of Equipment Asset, a client Location, an open Ticket, a signed Contract, a completed Intake form, or any external URL.

What the Reference Tab Does

References are lightweight links — they point at other content in the portal (or any URL) without copying it. Open the project, click any reference, you jump straight to it.

References are visible to everyone who can view the project, so use them to create a single browsable index of all the context a teammate or client needs.

Enabling the Tab

The Reference tab is disabled by default. To turn it on, edit the project's project_tab_config (see Per-Project Tab Configuration) and set relatedenabled: true.

Once enabled, the tab shows in the project's tab row with the diagram icon.

Item Types

ClientCove supports six post-type references plus URL references:

TypeColorIconUse For
ResourceYellow (warning)DocumentBrand kits, guides, deliverables, FAQs
AssetBlue (primary)NetworkEquipment, hardware, infrastructure items
LocationGreen (success)Map pinPhysical sites, offices, addresses
TicketCyan (info)TicketSupport requests related to this project
ContractRed (danger)Document checkSigned agreements, SOWs
IntakeDarkClipboard checkSubmitted intake forms
URLLinkAny external link

Each reference shows the item's title, a subtitle (e.g. asset type, location address), and a status badge where applicable.

Adding an Item

  1. Open the Reference tab
  2. Click + Add Reference
  3. A picker modal opens — search by title, filter by type
  4. Click an item to add it to the list

The reference appears in the tab immediately. You can add the same item multiple times if needed (e.g. once standalone, once inside a group).

Adding a URL Reference

  1. Click + Add URL
  2. Paste the URL
  3. Optionally set a custom title (defaults to the URL)
  4. Save

URL references appear with a generic link icon and open in a new tab when clicked.

Grouping Items

To organize references when you have many:

  1. Click + Add Group
  2. Name the group (e.g. "Brand Assets", "Approvals", "External References")
  3. Drag existing references into the group, or add new ones inside it

Groups can be collapsed for visual tidiness. Drag groups themselves to reorder.

Reordering & Deleting

  • Drag any item or group by its handle to reorder
  • Hover an item to reveal the delete (X) action
  • Confirm to remove (this only removes the reference link — the underlying Resource, Asset, etc. is untouched)
