Form Settings

Each form's Settings tab controls what happens around the form: the message or page people see when they finish, who hears about a new submission, when the form is open, and whether people can come back to finish later. These settings apply to portal forms and public forms alike.

After Submit

Choose one:

  • Show a message. Write your own confirmation message. Use the Insert answer picker to merge answers into it — for example, thanking someone by name — and add the form title or the submission's reference number. Basic formatting is allowed. Leave it blank to show the default "Thanks — your response has been received."
  • Go to a page. Send people to a URL of your choice, such as a thank-you page on your website. Optionally pick answers to carry in the address, so the page can use them.

On public forms, the after-submit setting also applies to every embed — you don't need to change your embed code to change it.

Notifications

  • Alert these people when a submission comes in — pick the team members who are notified.
  • Only alert when… — optionally add conditions on the answers (all or any of them) so alerts go out only for the submissions that matter, such as a budget above a certain amount or a particular service. With no conditions, every submission sends an alert.
  • Include the answers in the alert — choose whether the alert email lists the answers.

Auto-reply

Turn on Auto-reply with a copy of their answers to email the person who filled the form.

  • Send to — their account email (portal users), the email they entered (public forms), or the answer to a field you choose.
  • Subject and Message above the answers — write your own, with answers merged in if you like.
  • The email uses the Form Auto-reply template, so it matches the rest of your branded email. Style it in the Email designer.

Availability

  • Opens and Closes — dates and times when the form accepts submissions, in your site's timezone.
  • Maximum responses — stop accepting submissions after a set number.
  • Message when closed — what people see when the form isn't open.

The open or closed state shows on the form itself, on its info page and on the public form. Your staff, including administrators, can still fill a closed form from the portal.

Save and Resume

  • Portal forms autosave as people go. People can also choose Email me a link to finish later to get a link back to their draft.
  • Public multistep forms can offer Save and finish later: visitors email themselves a link back to their answers. Turn it on under Save & resume in Settings. File uploads aren't kept in a saved visitor draft.
  • Delete unfinished visitor drafts after — unfinished drafts from anonymous visitors are deleted after 30 days by default; change the number here.

Portal users' drafts are never deleted automatically.

Preview

The Preview tab shows the form at desktop, tablet and phone widths. For a public form, Preview as embed loads the real embedded form, exactly as visitors will see it.
