Field Types

Add fields from the palette on the form builder's Build tab. New fields start with their type name as their label — rename them to the question you want to ask. Every field type works in the portal, on public forms and embeds, on the submission page and in emails, and can be mapped into records by automations.

Basic Fields

FieldWhat it collects
TextA short or long text answer
ChoiceOne or several options, as radio buttons, checkboxes or a dropdown
ToggleA yes or no switch
DateA date picker
TimeA time picker
EmailAn email address, format-checked
PhoneA phone number, in any country's format
NumberA number, with an optional minimum, maximum and step
CurrencyA money amount, shown with a prefix such as $
URLA web address, format-checked

An Email field's answer is used as the submitter's email — for matching a public submission to an existing client and as the address for the auto-reply.

Feedback Fields

FieldWhat it collects
Rating1 to 5 stars
ScaleA number from 1 to 10, with labels for each end (for example "Not at all" and "Very")
NPSHow likely someone is to recommend you, from 0 to 10

Feedback fields get their own charts in reports: the distribution of answers, the average, and for NPS the Net Promoter Score.

Media Fields

FieldWhat it collects
ImageOne or several image uploads
FileDocument or other file uploads
SignatureA drawn signature

Uploads are stored in your configured storage and show reliably on the submission page — images as thumbnails with a download link. Two uploads with the same file name never overwrite each other. On public forms, uploads need private cloud storage; see File Uploads on Public Forms.

Upload size and file types

  • Up to 5 GB per file. With cloud storage (DigitalOcean Spaces, Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Storage), files on portal forms go straight from the browser to your storage, with a progress bar. They don't pass through your web server, so your host's upload limit doesn't apply.
  • Max file size on an Image or File field is optional. Leave it blank for the default (up to 5 GB), or enter a lower limit in MB for that field. The limit is checked before the upload starts and again on the stored file, and a file over the limit is removed.
  • Without cloud storage, uploads go through your web server, are checked against the field's limit, and can't be larger than your host allows. The form shows the limit that really applies.
  • File types. File fields accept any type except programs, scripts and web pages, so video, archives and design files work. Image fields accept images only.
  • Uploads that were started but never finished are removed after a day.

Public forms have their own, lower limit; see File Uploads on Public Forms.

Special Fields

FieldWhat it collects
AddressA structured address
UserPick or invite a person (portal forms only)
RepeaterAs many rows as someone needs, each with the same columns — see below
HiddenA value filled in automatically — see below
ConsentA required agreement, saved with the time it was given — see below
CalculatedA read-only total worked out from other answers — see below
ProductA pick from your product catalog — see below

Repeater Fields

A Repeater collects a list: people fill in a row, then press Add row for another — for example a name and link for each of their websites, or one line per item they need.

  • Columns. Each column is an input in every row: text, long text, URL, email, number or date. New Repeaters start with a Label and a URL column; rename, add or remove columns in the field's settings.
  • Starting rows. Minimum rows sets how many empty rows the form shows to begin with. The add button's text can be changed too.
  • Required. A required Repeater needs at least one row with something in it. The empty rows a form starts with don't count, and blank rows are dropped when the form is submitted.
  • On the submission page the answer shows as a table with your column headings. Emails and exports list one row per line.

To copy the rows into a record, map the Repeater to a list field on that record with the Repeater → rows option. Give each column the same key as the matching field in the record's list so the values land in the right place.

Hidden Fields

A Hidden field isn't shown to the person filling the form. It fills itself from one of:

  • A link parameter — for example, a ref value in the form's link, so you can tell which campaign or partner sent someone.
  • A UTM tag — campaign, source, medium and so on.
  • The referring page — the page people came from.
  • A fixed value — the same value on every submission, useful for tagging submissions from a particular form.

Hidden fields can be mapped into records like any other answer. When a form opens from an asset or location page as a default create form, a Hidden field can pick up that asset or location so the new record is linked to it.

A Consent field is a required checkbox — "I agree" — with an optional link to your policy (for example, your privacy policy). When someone ticks it, the submission records the date and time they agreed, set by the server rather than the browser.

Calculated Fields

A Calculated field shows a read-only result worked out from other answers: add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers and answers, with parentheses. Use it for quote totals, quantities times prices, tax and similar sums.

The result updates as people fill the form, and the server recalculates it when the form is submitted, so a changed value in the browser can't alter the stored total.

Product Picker

A Product field lets people choose from your product catalog.

  • On public forms, it lists only products that are public.
  • On portal forms, it lists the products the person filling the form is allowed to see.

The answer records the chosen product, ready for an automation to use.

Structure Blocks

BlockWhat it does
SectionGroups several fields. On multistep forms each section is a step; on single-page forms it works as a divider.
Info BlockRead-only instructions, in a plain, info, warning or success style
HTMLYour own HTML or embed code

How Answers Are Checked

Email, Phone, Number, Currency and URL answers are format-checked in the browser as people type, and checked again by the server when the form is submitted. The server also drops any rating or product that wasn't one of the options offered, so answers that bypass the form can't slip through.
