Pinning Project Views & Cards

Keep the part of a project you keep coming back to one click away. Pin a project's Team, Files or Reference tab — or one board card — to your sidebar, and it opens in a panel beside whatever you're working on: the ticket list, a resource, another project.

What You Can Pin

PinWhat opens
A view — any of the project's enabled tabs except Board and ListThat tab, exactly as it appears on the project page
A card from the boardThe full card: description, tags, checklist, images, files, linked Google files, comments and activity

Board and List stay on the project page. Which views are offered depends on the project's tab settings (the gear next to the tabs) — Team, Files, Timeline, Reference, Overview, Decisions and Scope appear when they're turned on.

Pinning a View

  1. Open the project
  2. Click the pin icon in the top-right of the header (Pin a view to the sidebar)
  3. Under Pin to sidebar, click the view — Team, Files, Reference, and so on

The row's pin fills in and the view appears under Pinned in the sidebar as Project name · View · Client — for example Brand Review / Team · So Cal Edison. Click the same row again to unpin it.

Pinning a Card

  1. Open the card from the board (or the list)
  2. Click the pin button next to Close in the card's header (Pin to sidebar)

The card appears under Pinned as Card title · Card · Project name. The pin button in the card header shows whether that card is pinned; click it again to unpin.

The Pinned Section

Pinned sits under the menu in the left sidebar, with a count. Each row shows the item's icon, its name and a second line saying what it is.

  • Click a row — opens the item in a panel beside the current page. Cmd/Ctrl-click or middle-click opens the full page instead.
  • The arrow icon on a row — opens the full page.
  • × — unpins it.
  • The header's chevron collapses the whole section; your browser remembers that.

Pins are yours — each user has their own list, and there's no limit.

The Panel

The panel opens beside the page and stays open as you move around the portal until you close it. Its header buttons:

ButtonDoes
Move panel to the other sideSwaps the panel between the left and right edge
Open full pageOpens the pinned item as a normal page — a view opens the project on that tab, a card opens the project with the card already open
Pin to sidebarPins / unpins the item shown in the panel
Minimize panelShrinks the panel to a strip; click the strip (Expand pinned item) to bring it back
Close panelCloses it (Esc also works while the panel has focus)

Drag the bar between the panel and the page to resize it. On a phone the two stack, with an Item | Page switch at the top of the panel.

A pinned project view is the real thing — the Team list, the folder tree, the reference items, the card's checklist and comments all work in the panel the same way they do on the project page.

On the Project Itself

If you click a pinned view while you're already on that project, the page simply switches to that tab; a pinned card opens its modal. No panel is opened for something that's already in front of you — but the pin stays active, so the panel comes back when you navigate to another page.

Who Can Use It

Any signed-in user can pin. You can only pin — and only see in your Pinned list — projects you're allowed to view, and only views that are enabled on that project.

Notes & Gotchas

  • Turning a tab off in the project's tab settings hides any pins to it.
  • Deleting a pinned card removes its pin.
  • A view pinned by one person is not pinned for anyone else.
