Today
Today is one page for your team that answers "what should I do now?". It lists what is overdue, what is due today and the tickets waiting for your reply, with a few suggested things to do first and a button on each item.
Overview
Open Today at /today/. It works with no setup: nobody has to turn anything on, and each person sees their own list. Today is worked out fresh every time you open it, and again when you come back to the browser tab after a minute or more away.
Today only ever lists work you can already see elsewhere in the portal, so two people can get different lists.
Ask the assistant "What needs my attention today?" or "What should I do now?" and it answers from the same list, leading with the suggested focus, then offers Open Today. It only reads the list: pinning, reminders and dismissing stay on this page. New in v4.217.0.
What It Shows
From top to bottom:
- The counts line, such as 3 due today · 2 overdue · 1 awaiting your reply.
- Waiting in Actions: when drafts or approval requests are waiting for you, one line says how many and links to Actions. It is only a pointer: the drafts themselves stay in Actions.
- On your calendar today: your meetings for the day from your connected calendar, read only. Each shows its time, title, location and join link. Meetings are not counted as work to do and never appear in suggested focus. With no calendar connected, or no meetings today, this part is hidden.
- Suggested focus: the 3–5 items most worth your time, each with a short reason such as 3 days overdue, Client waiting 4 days or Due today. It is worked out the same way every time, not written by AI.
- Overdue, Due today and Awaiting your reply (tickets waiting on your team with no due date). Each group shows up to 5 items and then +N more.
- Tomorrow: N due, which opens Weekly Breakdown so you can look further ahead.
Today covers tasks, routines (on clients, assets and locations), tickets, projects, invoices, estimates, contracts and file transfers.
File transfers
Active file transfers you created, sent or requested, show on the day they expire. Once a transfer has expired, completed or been cancelled it drops off the list: an expired transfer is never shown as overdue. Transfers other people created are not listed, even if you can see them on the Transfers page.
The Buttons on Each Item
Every item has the same buttons as on Weekly Breakdown and Upcoming Due: Open, Mark priority (or Pin for me), Send reminder and Dismiss.
Nothing is sent to a client from Today. A reminder that would reach a client or signer becomes a draft in Actions that a person publishes. Drafts made from Today say From Today in Actions. A reminder about your own file transfer is a portal notification to you.
A dismissed item stays hidden until its due date changes, and only for you.
The Other Tabs
Today has three tabs:
- Today (the default)
- Weekly Breakdown
- Upcoming Due
The last two are your scheduled agents. They work exactly as before: their schedules, emails and saved lists are unchanged. If you have not turned them on, their tab shows a Turn on card. If you have no agents at all, a line under Today offers Turn on Weekly Breakdown; Not now hides it in that browser.
The Today Card on Your Dashboard
The Today dashboard card is a short version of this page. New in v4.218.0. It shows:
- the counts line and an Open Today link;
- the Waiting in Actions line, when drafts or requests are waiting for you;
- the top items to do first, each with its reason, such as $5,200 · 3 days overdue or Awaiting your reply, linking to the item;
- Tomorrow: N due, which opens Weekly Breakdown.
It uses the same list as this page, so the two always agree. The card has no buttons of its own: to pin, remind or dismiss, open Today. Choose how many items it shows, from 3 to 8 (five by default), in the card's settings. Clients never see it.
Adding it. In the dashboard builder, add a widget and pick Today. See Building Dashboards.
New sites. The admin and staff dashboards the setup wizard makes start with the Today card where the "Go to" card used to be. Use the menu or Cmd+K to jump to a page. Client dashboards keep their "Go to" card.
Existing sites. When you update to v4.218.0, an admin or staff "Go to" card that is still exactly as the setup wizard made it is replaced by the Today card, once, in the same place and size. If you changed that card in any way (its title, buttons, links, order, size or style), it is left as it is. Client dashboards and cards you built yourself are never changed, and the Quick Actions card is still available in the builder if you want a "Go to" card back.
Getting to Today
- The Today card on your dashboard (Open Today).
- The account menu: Today is the first item for everyone on your team, on every site, which also puts it in Cmd+K.
- The Work menu: on new installs, and on menus switched to the recommended layout in Settings › Menus, Today is the first page under Work. Existing menus are not changed; add Today in Settings › Menus if you want it there.
- Links from Actions (Everything due today), the Today tab in My Tasks, the Calendar (Today list) and the Your Week card (Open Today).
How It Fits
| Page | Its job |
|---|---|
| Today | What to do now, across every kind of work |
| Actions | Drafts and approval requests waiting for a person to publish or approve |
| My Tasks | Managing your tasks: its own Today tab shows tasks only |
| Calendar | Planning across days and weeks |
| Today card | The top of Today, on your dashboard |
| Your Week | A dashboard card summing up the week |
Who Can See It
- Today is for your team: staff and contractors.
- Clients never see Today, its links or its menu item. Going to
/today/as a client opens the dashboard. - Administrators who can manage users can open someone else's Weekly Breakdown or Upcoming Due read-only; the Today tab is always your own.
Notes & Gotchas
- Today is live, not saved. Unlike Weekly Breakdown, there is no run history: every visit is worked out fresh.
- "Tomorrow" is refreshed every few minutes, so it can lag briefly after you change a due date.
- Waiting in Actions only appears when something is waiting. A count of zero shows nothing.
- Meetings are read only. Change a meeting in the calendar it came from.
